Sicily – A Great Alternative Italian Holiday Destination
Sicily has its own unique culture that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. It is of course quintessentially Italian; but over the years all of the island or parts of it have been ruled by the Greeks, the Romans, the Arabs and the Normans at some point of another. Consequently something of each culture has rubbed off on the agriculture and the attitudes of the inhabitants. Therefore, Sicily is an amalgamation of different customs and cultures. This is the main attraction of the island as it means there are so many interesting things to do and see, and you are guaranteed to have a unique experience here.
Sicily manages to retain a large element of its own heritage and history whilst embracing other ‘borrowed’ element from around the world. For example, whilst in Sicily you may discover a lively, cosmopolitan beach in the east coast resorts but if you travel just a little further inland you will be met with traditional orange groves and quaint Italian villages that epitomise the Sicilian culture and heritage. Whilst exploring Sicily, it would not be a surprise to come across a Greek temple or a Norman church. These elements make Sicilian culture something that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. So if you are looking for a unique experience then Sicily could be for you.
